Rent payments and rent increases
In England, private rent increases now go through the section 13 process. Rent can be increased once a year, with at least 2 months' notice.
- If you think the new rent is above market rate, you can apply to the First-tier Tribunal before the new rent starts.
- Rent review clauses in tenancy agreements can no longer be used to raise rent.
- Landlords and agents cannot ask for more than 1 month's rent in advance.
