Applies to: England
Pets and reasonable requests
Since 1 May 2026, landlords in England must consider a tenant's written request to keep a pet and cannot unreasonably refuse.
- Landlords have an initial 28 days to respond, and must give valid reasons if they refuse.
- Whether a refusal is reasonable depends on circumstances — see the official guidance.
