Damp, mould and housing conditions
Rented homes in England must be fit to live in. Serious damp and mould can make a home unfit and should be reported to your landlord.
- Report it in writing with dated photos, and keep a record of the response.
- If your landlord does not act, your local council can inspect hazards.
- Awaab's Law and the Decent Homes Standard are planned to be extended to private renting, but the government says timescales are subject to consultation — they are not yet in force for private tenants.
